The Kogi State Government, led by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, has released the state’s counterpart fund for the Kogi State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (KG-RAAMP), a critical initiative aimed at revitalizing rural communities and strengthening agricultural systems.
According to a statement by RAAMP Communication Officer Mr. Ndamodu Ali, the announcement was made during a media interaction by the State Project Coordinator, Engineer Sheidu Obansa Adamu, who commended Governor Ododo for his unwavering support and visionary leadership.
Engineer Obansa described the fund release as a strong demonstration of the governor’s rural-focused governance style and a strategic move to improve infrastructure and market access for rural farmers across the state.
“This gesture by His Excellency has reignited the team’s passion to deliver on RAAMP’s mandate with renewed commitment,” he said.
He also praised the roles of key government stakeholders including the Commissioner for Energy and Rural Development, Engineer Abdulmutalib Muhammad, the Chief of Staff Alhaji Ali Bello, the Commissioner for Finance and Economic Planning Asiwaju Asiru Idris, and the State Accountant General Dr. Habibat Tijani Onumoko for their contributions in making the project implementation a success.
Highlighting recent progress, Obansa revealed that contracts have been signed for the upgrade of strategic rural markets such as AKU Market in Adavi, Ajaka Market in Igalamela-Odolu, and Aiyegunle Market in Kabba-Bunu, ensuring even development across Kogi’s three senatorial districts.
He added that road construction works are also ongoing in various communities in line with the project’s objectives to connect rural areas with major economic hubs.
On staff engagement, Obansa announced the recent extension of the RAAMP lifespan to 2027, approved by donor partners after a joint appeal by the State Project Management Committees (SPMC) from participating states. He described the extension as a renewed call to action, urging the staff to avoid internal distractions and work with integrity and unity.
Also addressing staff at the meeting was the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Rural and Energy Development, Mr. Daniel Onimisi, who encouraged the team to uphold a strong work ethic and reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to continued collaboration.
Staff in return pledged greater dedication and unity in achieving the goals of the project under the Governor Ododo administration.
