2 Policemen Attached To Ebonyi Lawmaker Killed In Imo

Two police escorts attached to the Majority Leader of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon. Kingsley Ikoro, were on Sunday gunned down along the Okigwe Expressway in Imo State.

Ikoro, who represents Afikpo North-West constituency, had gone for an official function and had travelled along the Okigwe Expressway in the company of other members of his entourage.

However, one of Ikoro’s vehicles had while on transit along the Okigwe Expressway developed a mechanical fault, a development that forced the lawmaker to station two of the policemen at the spot while he and others continued the trip.

However, a few hours after Ikoro and others left the scene, a group fleeing gunmen ambushed the two Policemen and killed them on the spot.

Efforts to speak with the Imo State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, over the incident proved abortive as his phone line was switched off despite several attempts.

Meanwhile, a police source, which pleaded anonymity, confirmed the development and said that the two corpses of the policemens had been moved to the morgue while investigation continued.
