Pioneer national vice chairman (North East) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Umar Duhu, has expressed joy and gratitude over President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reported decision to retain Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement issued to journalists yesterday in Abuja, Duhu described the development as a “divine fulfilment” of a prediction he had made regarding Shettima’s continued role in the Tinubu-led administration.
Referring to a headline published by The Trail Newspaper on August 18, 2025 – “2027: Tinubu to Retain Kashim Shettima as VP”, Duhu said he was “overwhelmed with joy” that his words were “almost coming to pass.”
“Praise be to the Almighty! I am overwhelmed with joy and gratitude as I reflect on the fulfilment of my prediction,” he stated. “I had stated that Kashim Shettima will retain his position as Vice President in 2027… This development is not only a testament to the accuracy of my statement but also a demonstration of the divine will at play.”
Dr. Duhu lauded Vice President Shettima’s leadership qualities, describing him as a beacon of integrity and national service.
According to him, Shettima’s continued presence on the APC ticket guarantees political stability and ensures continuity in governance.
“His retention is a blessing for our nation,” he said. “I am confident that he will continue to serve with honesty, loyalty, integrity, and dedication.”
He further called on party members and stakeholders to rally behind the anticipated decision, warning that any attempt to replace Shettima could risk party unity and derail the APC’s progress ahead of the 2027 general election.
From a constitutional standpoint, Duhu noted that Shettima’s eligibility remains intact, citing Section 141 of the Nigerian Constitution, which outlines the qualifications for the office of the Vice President.
“The APC’s decision is consistent with the Constitution and our party’s democratic principles. Any attempt to alter this course would be risky and undermine the unity and progress the APC has achieved so far.”
He concluded by urging Nigerians to remain prayerful and committed to the nation’s unity and expressing appreciation to his supporters.
