Police Escorts Injured, Jigawa Speaker Unhurt In Convoy Accident

The Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, on Monday, narrowly escaped death after his convoy was involved in a serious accident on the way to Maigatari Local Government Area of the State.

According to Newspoint Nigeria, the Speaker was en route Maigatari to attend a political rally organised under the platform “Gwamnati da Jama’a” (Government and the People Engagement Forum) when tragedy struck.

Eyewitnesses said the convoy was heading towards the rally venue when one of the escort vehicles, a black Toyota Hilux carrying police personnel, suddenly lost control and somersaulted multiple times. The violent crash reportedly flung the police escorts out of the vehicle.

“Other vehicles in the convoy, including the one conveying the Speaker, had to make emergency maneuvers and came to a stop just a few meters from the accident scene,” an eyewitness said

Security sources confirmed that the injured police officers were rushed to Gumel General Hospital in an unconscious state but were later revived.

Speaking on the incident, the Speaker’s Personal Assistant, Aqeel Akilu, expressed gratitude that no lives were lost.

“There is no loss of lives. All the police involved in the accident are now feeling better as they have been treated and discharged from the hospital,” Aqeel said.

Eyewitnesses at the scene commended the swift response of other security personnel and first responders, noting that their quick intervention prevented what could have been a tragic loss of lives.

The Speaker was also said to have personally supervised the evacuation of the injured policemen before assessing the mangled vehicle.
