The Kano State Fire Service has advised residents to be extra careful during the harmattan season to prevent fire outbreaks and protect lives and property.
The advice was given on Tuesday during a fire prevention and public awareness campaign held in Gezawa Local Government Area as part of the Service’s ongoing Hunturu fire safety campaign.
Speaking during the sensitisation programme at the palace of the District Head of Gezawa, the Fire Service warned that the dry harmattan weather increases the risk of fire incidents if proper care is not taken.
“Harmattan season requires extra care. People must be very cautious when handling fire and flammable materials,” the Service said during the exercise.
The campaign which was supervised by the Divisional Commander, PFS II Rabiu Mansur Sadi, focused on educating residents on simple but important steps to prevent fire outbreaks, especially in homes, markets, and public places.
Residents were advised to avoid careless use of fire, ensure cooking areas are safe, and keep flammable items away from open flames. They were also encouraged to take fire prevention seriously as a collective responsibility.
The Kano State Fire Service further urged members of the public to promptly report fire incidents and other emergencies.
“Fire prevention is better than response. Early reporting can help save lives and property,” the Service added.
