The presiding Pastor of Genesis Global Church, Prophet Israel Ogundipe, has warned Christians against payment of first fruit.
The cleric, also known as Prophet Genesis, said Christians should not do that at the expense of their personal or family welfare.
According to him, it had become necessary to address concerns brought to his attention regarding financial strain associated with first fruit contributions, particularly at the start of the year.
“Because it is the first month of the year, many people usually bring this offering, and a lot of them are worried about how they would cope financially if they pay,” he said.
Prophet Genesis recalled a recent case of a church member who had N500,000 but whose mother also needed money to pay rent.
“He wanted to use the money to pay first fruit because he had heard that those who don’t pay would not receive God’s blessings.
“When it got to my table, I told him that God would not want his mum to live on the street or be chased out of her house, and that God does not want His children to be in discomfort,” the cleric said.
