Bobrisky, a popular Nigerian cross-dresser, was transferred to a Maximum Security Custodial Centre for safety concerns due to his unique physical features, including female-like attributes such as breasts, according to Michael Anugwa, the deputy controller of corrections in charge of the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Kirikiri, Lagos. Anugwa explained that placing Bobrisky in a regular facility could have put him at risk of sexual violence from other inmates. The transfer to maximum security was authorized as part of protective custody measures in line with international best practices.
Anugwa also revealed that Bobrisky requested special food arrangements, opting for self-feeding, which is allowed under Nigerian law. He nominated two individuals, Abiola Okuneye and Moji Okuneye, to provide his meals after refusing prison rations.
This transfer comes amid a bribery scandal where Bobrisky allegedly paid ₦15 million to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to drop money laundering charges against him. The bribery allegations are currently being investigated by the House of Representatives Committees on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions. Bobrisky had been sentenced to six months in prison for Naira mutilation, but bribery claims emerged following his release. Anugwa, along with another correctional officer, was reportedly suspended in connection with this scandal, though he refuted the suspension as merely a “social media” rumor, stating he had not received any formal notice.
