The commissioning of Bashorun Kola Daisi vocational centre by Niyi Ajewole-led Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes,CCIIon Friday 28th March came to many people as a surprise .Given the fact that the donor of the vocational centre was grieving having lost his daughter- in- law,Bisola to the cold hands of death only about 24 hours earlier should have made the post ponement of the centre’s commissioning inevitable. The CCII which has benefited immensely from the sweat and tears of both Kola Daisi and Ajimobi families do not need to be counselled that we should rejoice with those who are rejoicing, and mourn with those who are mourning. It is not enough for the Ibadan apex socio-culturalbody to mourn the passing of the 42 years old and condole the families affected but be seen to share in their grief.
For the record, the Abiola Ajimobi Administration built the much-talked-about Olubadan Palace,OKe Aremo, Ibadan to the stage from where it was completed.Only God knows how much his Administration committed to it before he cried foul and blue murder over the financial misdemeanor of some of our elders entrusted to build the Palace to the stage where it was later completed through the effort of Governor Seyi Makinde.The former Governor of Oyo State was a patriotic, proud and dedicated Ibadan Indigene.His eldest child was late Bisola, who from all intents and purposes, has not yet been committed to mother earth. The late woman was the wife of Kolapo Kola-Daisi, son of the multi billionaire businessman who donated a sum of #70m for the building of the vocational centre, which was ingloriously open yesterday. Why the hurry, if the lifespan of Ajewole ‘s first term is June?
Let us even agree that some CCII members visited the Kola Daisi family to commiserate with them and inform them of the proposed commissioning of the vocational centre.The fact that the family said you can go ahead but no member of Kola Daisi family (which built the centre)would attend the opening is sufficient for Ajewole CCII to tarry.And to underscore the failure of the commissioning ceremony, the State was not represented. The Olubadan-in-council comprising 11 members had only one of them, Otun Balogun, Oba Kola Adegbola in attendance. The target audience was nowhere there.The artisans and local Govt councils were conspicuously absent.There are some parts of the building that do not add up. Typical of Ajewole Administration, no record of income and expenditure of #70m spent on the project was made public.
We have repeatedly told those who care to listen that human organisations like CCII are not supposed to be run like an animal kingdom.Same way the Electoral process of the CCII is being mismanaged.
