Ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President David Mark, and other prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are currently holding a closed-door meeting in Abuja as consultations continue toward unveiling a new coalition platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The high-level meeting, which is ongoing at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, brings together a power bloc of former governors and senior party officials determined to mount a formidable opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s administration in the next presidential race.
“The talks are strategic and high-stakes. The leaders are weighing whether to fully merge into a new platform or form an alliance while remaining in the PDP,” a source familiar with the deliberations told The Bureau News.
Also present at the meeting are former Governors Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Liyel Imoke (Cross River), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), and Sam Egwu (Ebonyi), alongside ex-PDP National Chairman Prince Uche Secondus.
According to earlier reports, the proposed coalition has identified the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the platform to rally opposition forces. It was also revealed that David Mark will serve as the coalition’s interim chairman, with an official unveiling set for Wednesday.
Other notable attendees include Senator Ben Obi, former PDP National Women Leader Josephine Anenih, ex-Organising Secretary Senator Austin Akobundu, ex-National Publicity Secretary Kola Ologbondiyan, and former National Youth Leader Abdullahi Maibasira.
This meeting marks a significant step in what appears to be a reconfiguration of Nigeria’s opposition politics, as 2027 looms large on the horizon.
