The Oyo State High Court
sitting in Ibadan has restrained the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, CCII, the apex Ibadan socio-cultural body from conducting its biannual election slated for tomorrow, Friday.
The court presided over by Justice Ladiran Akintola ruled on the application brought before it by a veteran journalist and candidate for the post of CCII Secretary General,Chief Adeola Oloko.
Oloko, a former Personal Assistant to 41st Olubadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji ,had through his counsel,Hussein Afolabi accused the CCII Electoral Committee of unjust and unfair disqualification to disenfranchise him and Afikaraun forimu club of Ibadanland,which sponsored his candidacy.
Specifically, the complainant took exception to the use of derogatory and weighthy words like impersonation and falsification by the Electoral Committee to describe his disqualification. He contended that if the election was allowed to hold without addressing the damages wilfully done to his family name by the committee, his family runs the risk of being eternally damned and disgraced.He specifically asked his accusers to name the person he impersonated and the records he falsified to deserve the negative appelations from the CCII Electoral Committee. The court adjourned the interlocutory injunction till April 10 for hearing.
Two weeks ago, Otun Olubadan and former Governor of Oyo State, Oba Rashidi Ladoja invited the two opposition groups to a dinner and parley. The royal father counselled the warring groups to sheathe their swords by allowing candidates disqualified, in controversial circumstancesby the Electoral Committee to contest. He also advised aggrieved candidates to withdraw court cases and stop use of abusive content in the social media.
However, while the New Era Group obeyed the terms and conditions of the parley,the Consolidation group did not.
