Frank Lampard has been appointed the new manager of Coventry City, marking his return to football management. The 46-year-old former Chelsea and England midfielder has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Championship side, stepping into the role previously held by Mark Robins.
Lampard has been out of management since his interim tenure at Chelsea ended in May 2023, where the club finished in the bottom half of the Premier League. Prior to that, he was sacked by Everton earlier in the same season following a challenging spell.
In his new position, Lampard will be supported by Joe Edwards and Chris Jones, both of whom worked with him during his time at Chelsea. His first match in charge will take place on Saturday when Coventry City hosts Cardiff City at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
Coventry City owner and executive chairman Doug King expressed confidence in Lampard’s ability to lead the team:
