Iconic Open Varsity Gets NUC Approval For Postgraduate Programmes

In a significant boost to open and distance learning in Nigeria, the National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the Iconic Open University to commence new postgraduate and undergraduate programs.

A statement issued by the university registrar, Dr. Muhammad Sanusi, over the weekend said the approval will position the university as a key player in advanced professional education.

The newly approved postgraduate courses include the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Public Administration (MPA), Master of Public Health (MPH), Master of Information Technology (MIT), Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health, and Postgraduate Diploma in Information.

“Other approved postgraduate programmes are the Master of International Relations and Diplomacy and the Master of Crime Management and Security Studies, both designed to meet the growing demand for expertise in governance, security, and global affairs,” the statement said.

Dr. Sunusi added that “At the undergraduate level, NUC has also approved the B.Ed. in Educational Management and the Bachelor of Environmental Health Science (B.EHS), further expanding the institution’s commitment to diverse academic disciplines.

The statement stressed that the institution has already established itself as one of the leading institutions in open and distance education, offering a range of programs in health sciences, technology, management, and the humanities.

He further recalls some of its existing programs with NUC approval.

According to him, the courses include B.N.Sc. Nursing Science, B.Sc. Public Health, B.HIM. Health Information Management, B.Sc. Computer and Information Technology, and B.Sc. Software Engineering.

Others are B.Sc. Accounting, B.Sc. Business Administration, B.Sc. Public Administration, B.A. Arabic Language, B.A. English Language, B.A. Islamic Studies, B.Sc. International Relations and Diplomacy, B.Sc. Criminology and Security Studies, and B.Sc. Mass Communication.

The statement described the latest feat as “a milestone for accessible education.”

“The NUC’s approval underscores the university’s compliance with rigorous academic standards, ensuring that graduates are well-equipped for the evolving demands of the workforce,” it added.
