Sokoto State governor, Ahmed Aliyu and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, have appealed to the family of the Maituta Dynasty to continue to imbibe the cherished qualities for which their patriarch was known.
They made the appeal at a reunion reception organised by the Ibrahimu Maituta Foundation. Governor Aliyu urged the descendants of Maituta to maintain their unity and use their knowledge for the promotion of Islam and tolerance both in the state and beyond.
The governor, who was represented at the event by his chief of staff, Alhaji Haliru Dikko, said he was impressed with the family’s commitment to their forefathers’ legacies by contributing to humanity’s development.
For his part, the Sultan, who is also the president-general of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), praised the Maituta family for its foresight.
He advised that it should be sustained to promote unity among the family members.
He also urged them to emulate their forefathers’ benevolence, use their resources for humanity, and promote Islamic knowledge.
Earlier, Dr Jabbi Kilgori, who was the convener of the reunion, said it was meant to promote unity and brotherhood spirit among the descendants of Ibrahim Maituta dynasty.
Jabbi, who is the Sayin Kilgiri and a senior councillor/kingmaker at Sokoto Sultanate Council, said the gathering was a rare opportunity for them to promote brotherly love.
He challenged the members of the Maituta Dynasty to uphold the cherished legacies of their patriarch, for whom they are grateful to be identified with.
In his goodwill message, the permanent secretary, Federal Ministry of Art, Culture and Tourism, Dr Muktar Yawale Muhammed, thanked God for being a member of the family.
He said the family would continue to strive for the virtues of honesty, selflessness and dedication to humanity for which they were known.
Yawale said the Ibrahimu Maituta family spans the Yabo local government area of Sokoto State to Zamfara, Jigawa, and Kano States, making the reunion unique.
