A police officer, Inspector Lasare Jeremiah attached to the Plateau State Police Command has died following an attack by a mob at Nyakala Village in Bassa Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo said in a statement on Friday, that the officer was killed on Thursday, September 10, 2025.
The PPRO explained that on the said date, Investigation Department, SCID were probing a petition against one Adu Abdullahi, a resident of Kishika Village, Bassa.
She said during the investigation, the detectives spotted the suspect riding a motorcycle along Binchi Village and trailed him to Nyakala Village, where he was intercepted.
The PPRO said upon sighting the detectives, the suspect raised a false alarm, claiming the officers were motorcycle thieves.
The fake alarm led to a mob attacking one of the officers.
“When the mob realized their mistake, they turned on the suspect, attacking him aggressively.
“Both the officer and the suspect were rushed to Cottage Hospital in Kisalloi, Bassa, where the officer succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
“The suspect was referred to Jos University Teaching Hospital, where he later died.
“The incident is currently under investigation by the State CID in Jos.
“The Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, CP Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, psc, expresses his grief over the unfortunate incident and cautions against unnecessary mob actions that negate the law.
“He assures that the perpetrators will be prosecuted in accordance with the law once arrested”, the PPRO said.
