Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has approved an additional ₦6 billion for the fourth batch of gratuity, death benefits, and other retirement entitlements for state workers and their families.
The announcement was made during a briefing by the Executive Chairman of the Kano State Pension Board, who presented a comprehensive report on the latest Gratuity Payment Plan to the Governor.
This latest disbursement brings the total sum paid by the current administration to ₦27 billion, addressing a significant portion of the ₦48.6 billion backlog of gratuities and death benefits inherited from the administration of former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje (2016–2023).
“Our government is committed to fulfilling its obligations to retirees and the families of deceased workers who served the state faithfully,” Governor Yusuf stated.
He reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to clear the outstanding pension and gratuity liabilities through strategic, phased payments.
Prioritising Workers’ Welfare
The Kano State Government has made the settlement of pension and gratuity arrears a cornerstone of its social welfare policy since assuming office in 2023. The governor emphasized that timely payment of retirement benefits not only restores dignity to retirees but also stimulates economic activity across the state.
With this fourth installment approved, thousands of retirees and beneficiaries of deceased workers are expected to receive their long-overdue entitlements, bringing relief to many families.
