The Kebbi State Government has commenced the disbursement of N1.5 billion as compensation to property owners in Jega town whose structures are scheduled for demolition to pave the way for a major dual carriageway construction project.
The cheque presentation ceremony took place at the Palace of the District Head of Jega, under the supervision of Alhaji Muhammad Arzika Bawa. The event was led by Architect Aliyu Maude, Chairman of the State Compensation Committee, and Town Planner Abubakar Ahmad, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Lands and Housing.

According to Architect Maude, the initiative was personally approved by Governor Nasir Idris, who constituted the committee to ensure that rightful property owners are duly compensated ahead of the infrastructure project.
“We are appealing for the cooperation of all residents of Jega to support this development, which is aimed at transforming the town’s road network,” Maude stated during the event.
Over 200 Structures Affected
Permanent Secretary Abubakar Ahmad confirmed that the Ministry undertook a comprehensive verification and enumeration process, ensuring that only legitimate owners of the affected buildings were captured.
“So far, 236 individuals have been verified and documented for payment. The compensation covers more than 200 structures slated for demolition,” he added.
He assured residents that the state government remains committed to fair and transparent compensation processes as part of its broader development agenda.
Traditional Ruler Commends Government
The District Head of Jega, Alhaji Muhammad Arzika Bawa, commended Governor Idris for initiating the road project, describing it as a welcome development for the town.
“This project will enhance connectivity, ease transportation, and boost local economic activities. We appreciate the Governor’s commitment to grassroots development,” he said.
The dual carriageway project is one of several infrastructure plans outlined by the Idris-led administration aimed at modernizing urban and semi-urban centres across Kebbi State.
