June 14, 2025 — In a decisive move to foster unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi East, the Deputy Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Comrade Joel Salifu, convened a strategic meeting with party stakeholders at his residence in Lokoja. The event also marked the official introduction of Hon. Ogwu Hassan Abdullahi as the new Acting Zonal Vice Chairman of the APC in Kogi East, following the passing of his predecessor.

According to a statement released by Mr. Unubi Emmanuel, Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, the meeting drew prominent attendees including members of the National and State Assemblies, Commissioners, Special Advisers, Local Government Chairmen, Institutional Heads, Divisional Party Chairmen, and other influential leaders from the zone.

Deputy Governor Salifu commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s inclusive style of leadership, which he said has fostered peace and development in Kogi State. He emphasized that Kogi East remains committed to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reelection bid in 2027.

“The unity of our party is essential for the growth and prosperity of Kogi East. Every political leader must go back home and engage with their people—because politics, ultimately, is local,” Salifu stated.

Stakeholders also deliberated on the logistics for a proposed decamping ceremony, which is expected to see several high-profile politicians and opposition figures join the APC.

Hon. Onuh Edoka, Special Adviser to the Governor on Labour Matters, praised the meeting and affirmed that many of those who previously left the APC in Kogi East are now eager to return. He urged party members to welcome returnees with open arms.

Also speaking, Alhaji Alhasan Salisu Adakeke, Secretary of SUBEB, attributed the increasing support for the APC to Governor Ododo’s impactful governance. Hon. David Idris Zacharias, representing Idah Federal Constituency, stressed the importance of resolving internal disputes to strengthen the party’s future.

Hon. Yakubu Okala, Kogi State Auditor General, lauded both the Governor and his Deputy, describing them as true ambassadors of the state. He encouraged party stakeholders to remain proactive in sustaining the APC’s national agenda.

To round off the event, Deputy Governor Salifu inaugurated a committee to coordinate the planned decamping event in Anyigba and instructed members to diligently fulfill their assigned responsibilities.

A key moment at the meeting was the motion for the unopposed reelection of Governor Ododo and Deputy Salifu in the 2027 gubernatorial election. The motion was moved by Rt. Hon. Comfort Nwuchiola Egwaba, Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, and seconded by Hon. Lawal Akus, Member Representing Ankpa 1 Constituency. It received a unanimous endorsement from all present stakeholders.
