Lawmakers Ask Bauchi Govt To Establish Farmer-Herder Board

The Bauchi State House of Assembly has adopted a motion calling on the state government to take immediate and effective measures to enforce the implementation of the farmers and herders board law.

The call is contained in a motion moved by the speaker of the House,  Abubakar  Suleiman, during plenary, hoping to address encroachment of grazing areas and cattle routes in the state.

He said despite efforts of the state government to bridge the gap between farmers and herders, the conflicts continue, resulting in loss of lives, destruction of properties and displacement of communities.

The speaker argued that the effective implementation of the farmers and herders board law, coupled with the protection of grazing areas and cattle routes, would significantly reduce conflicts in the state.

Meanwhile, the member representing Ganjuwa West at the state House of Assembly, Engineer Garba Adamu Kawu, has appealed to the state executive arm to construct a drainage and culvert system leading to the cemetery in Miya town, Ganjuwa local government area.

He said the cemetery in Miya town serves as a final resting place for the departed, but, absence of a proper drainage system along the road has subjected residents to untold hardship, especially during the rainy season.
