Nigerian Artificial Intelligence Innovator, Aboze Brain John has tasked Nigerian youths on looking beyond the myriad challenges in their environment to exploring opportunities available in tackling local and global problems.
Aboze who bagged the AIESEC Leadership Award, maintained that “It’s possible to do big things for a small place”, a testament to his dedication to making a significant impact from his home country.
He urged the youths to look beyond and overcome the limitations that will not allow them to be changed agents.
“I want to encourage Nigerian youths to dig deep and look beyond to tackle the local and global problems in Nigeria. AI has come for us to leverage and we can use it to improve our personal effectiveness. I am a testimony in this regard,” the young AI Innovator remarked.
The award from Association Internationale des Étudiants en Sciences Économiques et Commerciales (AIESEC) which translates in English to International Association of Students in Economics and Business, a global organisation dedicated to empowering young people to make a positive social impact, has a network of approximately 84,000 members in over 100 countries.
Organisers said the award recognises Aboze’s continuous efforts in putting Nigeria on the global map through his groundbreaking AI innovations and research.
His work has been particularly impactful in the healthcare sector. He has also co-authored a significant research paper on the application of mathematical modeling to manage the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria.
This paper, titled: “SARS-CoV2: Application of Mathematical modelling in managing the pandemic in Nigeria,” utilised the CHIME (COVID-19 Hospital Impact Model for Epidemics) model to forecast the progression of the outbreak and provide insights for hospital capacity planning.
His research aimed to help authorities make informed decisions on countermeasures to slow down viral transmission and prepare the healthcare system for the challenges of the pandemic.
In another vital contribution during the COVID-19 crisis, Aboze wrote a paper on “Optimising Health Facilities Allocation for COVID-19 Management Using Social Vulnerability Index and Spatial Data Analysis.
This work was designed to help hospitals identify vulnerable areas in the country and prepare accordingly.
The young AI Innovator also developed a drone project to detect facemasks, a solution he urged airports to adopt which led to a conversation with Google Expert, Laurence Moroney.
Aboze’s expertise has been recognised by his inclusion as a knowledge volunteer for Data Science Nigeria, where he worked alongside top AI experts like Sara Hooker and Dr. Stephen Odaibo.
