Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, the national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) a “dead party” during a Party National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Monday. He also criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC), highlighting a significant disconnect between its leadership and the pressing issues faced by Nigerians, including escalating insecurity, poverty, and hunger.
Kwankwaso emphasized that, despite numerous challenges, the NNPP is positioning itself as the fastest-growing political party in Nigeria. He expressed gratitude to supporters for their dedication as the party seeks to establish itself as a viable alternative in the nation’s political landscape.
He stated, “I’m pleased to say that, despite all the challenges, today our party is the fastest-growing party in this country. I remember when I visited Katsina State to open our state office; there I mentioned that the two parties, especially PDP, were dead, and there are so many concerns within the fold of PDP. I’m sure when I was making that statement, many of them did not see what was happening today, that the party was being made into pieces.”
Kwankwaso further remarked on the APC’s leadership, saying, “The leadership is just up there in the air, and the entire nation, the people of this country are on the ground.” He criticized the APC’s performance, especially regarding security, poverty, and hunger in Nigeria.
In response to Kwankwaso’s statements, the National Chairman of NNPP, Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, urged Nigerians to prioritize integrity and work collectively towards a brighter future. National Secretary Dipo Olayoku encouraged party members to actively engage in local government elections to enhance the party’s visibility and strengthen democracy.
Olayoku also reflected on the party’s progress, noting that the last NEC meeting ratified its new Constitution, logo, slogan, and flag, aligning with the Electoral Act and the Nigerian Constitution. He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to upholding the will of the electorate amid the current political challenges facing the nation.
