The Middle Belt Forum, MBF, has claimed that over 500 people including women and children have been buried in some communities in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State following incessant attacks by Fulani militias in two years.
Deputy Publicity Secretary of the Forum, Dr. Stanley Kavwam, who made this known during an interview session with a television station in Jos on Tuesday, said the alarming number of deaths recorded in Mangu LGA in the last two years has been unprecedented as different communities have continued to bury their loved ones killed by the marauders.
Kavwam, an indigene of Mangu, noted that the killers who are often described as unknown gunmen are now known and identified as Fulani militias and herdsmen and have also also led to the displacement of 164 local communities, which have been taken over and renamed by the them.
The MBF scribe also lamented the fact that there have been poor media coverage of the killings in the council, urging the media in the state to do everything possible to escalate the crisis.
He expressed concerns that the Nigerian military seems to lose their bearings when it comes to addressing the mass killings in Plateau State but is swift to crush agitations in other states, a situation he described as selective justice.
Kavwam described the killings in Plateau and the Middle Belt as a jihadist agenda, fueled by the indoctrination of young people in the North. He emphasized that unless these young people are empowered with a right education, there would be no end in sight for the ongoing killings.
He also criticized the elite class, including politicians, governors, senators and captains of industry, for exploiting the illiteracy and ignorance of the masses.
