The Niger State Police Command has clarified the recent attack on Court Magistrate Benjamin Zakari along Kontagora Road, stating that, contrary to some reports, no occupants of the vehicle he was travelling in were abducted.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, on September 11, 2025, at around 12:15 pm, suspected armed men attempted to block a commercial vehicle with registration number MAK 238 XA at Tudun-Fulani, along Kontagora–Tegina Road.
The police spokesman disclosed that during the incident, the driver of the vehicle manoeuvred and sped off, prompting the hoodlums to open fire on the vehicle.
He explained that among the travellers who sustained gunshot injuries while trying to escape was Magistrate Benjamin Zakari.
Abiodun added that the other two passengers, Zakari and Samaila, were also injured.
“The Police operatives of ‘A’ Division Kontagora rushed in and the victims were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. None of the occupants in the vehicle was abducted,” he revealed.
He said Police tactical teams and other security agencies were mobilised to the scene, while the hoodlums escaped into the forest.
