The 2023 Labour Party’s governorship candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has accused the Nigeria police of supervising and protecting the All Progressives Congress, APC, to do a rally at a venue he paid for.
Rhodes-Vivour made this allegation on Monday, when he appeared as a guest on the ‘Prime Time’, a programme on Arise Television.
He demanded the commissioner of police to explain why that happened.
“That would be a fantastic question to ask the Commissioner of Police because I have talked about this. We got approval from the police, got the letter, made payments, and they occupied the venue.
“The government needs to start to explain these things because our job is to notify them and their job is to protect the citizens, not to determine who can do what, when and how. That goes against our constitution and the democratic process we are practicing.
“The police need to explain how they shepherd thugs to come into a church and completely destroy the assembly of people there and be so violent and watch what literally happened,” he said.
