Pope Leo XIV has expressed deep concern over the plight of civilians in Gaza, condemning their forced displacement and the worsening humanitarian conditions in the region.
Speaking after his weekly general audience on Wednesday, the 70-year-old pontiff said Gaza’s residents are “once again being uprooted” and subjected to living standards that are “wholly unacceptable.”
“I stand in profound solidarity with the Palestinian people in Gaza, who continue to live in fear and endure displacement from their lands,” Pope Leo declared.
He renewed his call for an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages, and a return to diplomatic dialogue aimed at achieving a lasting solution. The pope further stressed the need for unwavering respect for international humanitarian law.
“I invite everyone to join me in prayer that peace and justice may soon dawn in the region,” he said, urging the international community not to relent in efforts toward reconciliation.
