Stakeholders have emphasised the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors to strengthen corporate governance and drive national transformation.
They spoke yesterday at the Political Economy and Leadership Summit 2025, with the theme “Political Economy of Nation Building: The World’s Unfinished Business,” in Abuja.
The stakeholders asserted that public-private sector collaboration was crucial for corporate governance in Nigeria, as they shared their aspirations for economic growth through proper corporate governance.
The president of the International Institute of Experts and Political Economy and Administration, Prof . Tunji John Asaolu, underscored the summit as a signifier of a collective commitment to address one of the most pressing challenges facing our nations in this era of rapid change.
This summit, organised by the International Institute of Experts on Political Economy and Administration (IIEPEA) Canada in collaboration with the United World Congress of Diplomats (UN-WCD), aims to explore the complicated relationship between political economy and nation-building and the pathways to achieving our developmental goals.
Asaolu emphasised that the political economy of nation-building encapsulates the interplay between politics, economics, and societal factors in shaping governance and public policy.
He said it encompasses the systems, structures, and processes that drive economic growth while ensuring social justice and political stability.
He said nations‘ performance has been profoundly influenced by political decisions, economic strategies, and the social fabric within which they operate.
“We must acknowledge the substantial hurdles that hinder our progress,” Asaolu said, adding that corruption, inequality, insufficient infrastructure, and governance challenges have obstructed our growth potential.
According to him, the global landscape continually evolves, presenting new challenges such as climate change and technological tumult that demand innovative solutions and collaborative efforts.
He concluded, „To navigate these complexities, we must harness a comprehensive approach that integrates political integrity, economic stewardship, and effective leadership.“
