Osita Okechukwu, a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has urged President Bola Tinubu to embrace the political philosophy of committing “class suicide” to drive Nigeria toward sustainable growth and development. Okechukwu referenced the maxim of Amilcar Cabral, a revolutionary leader, who advocated for leaders to abandon their class interests in favor of the public good.
Responding to Tinubu’s Independence Day address, Okechukwu highlighted that Nigeria stands at a pivotal moment where policies serving the common good must triumph over selfishness and inefficiency. He acknowledged that previous administrations had good intentions but failed to commit to transformative leadership due to the lack of political will.
Okechukwu elaborated, “Without class suicide, how can leadership utilize our abundant human and material resources to lift millions out of poverty and effectively ignite Nigeria’s resorgimento (revival)?” He emphasized that President Tinubu has identified with the struggles of Nigerians and presented concrete solutions, particularly focusing on youth engagement, which capitalizes on Nigeria’s demographic advantage.
Reflecting on the country’s progress since independence, Okechukwu expressed gratitude for the nation’s unity, expanding infrastructure, and educational opportunities, despite the ongoing economic hardships. He called for patience, asserting that Nigerians, known for their resilience and support of leadership, should maintain hope, as there is light at the end of the tunnel.
