Nigeria’s Flamingos delivered an impressive performance, thrashing Ecuador 4-0 in their second Group A match at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup on Saturday. The victory featured a brace from Shakirat Moshood and goals from Peace Effiong and Chidera Chidi, solidifying the Flamingos’ strong start in the tournament.
The Flamingos have now secured back-to-back wins, having previously defeated New Zealand 4-1 in their opening match. This latest win positions them at the top of Group A with six points from two games.
Moshood opened the scoring in the 28th minute, converting a penalty kick with confidence. Chidi doubled the lead in the 54th minute with a low left-footed strike that found the back of the net, leaving the Ecuadorian goalkeeper with no chance.
Effiong added a third goal in the 66th minute, capitalizing on a defensive mistake by the Ecuadorian keeper, who failed to clear the ball effectively, allowing Effiong to slot it into an empty net. Moshood capped off the evening with her second goal in the sixth minute of added time, executing a superb left-footed strike from a cutback.
The Flamingos will look to continue their winning streak in their next game against the hosts, the Dominican Republic, on Wednesday, October 23.
