The Vice Chancellor of the Osun State University, UNIOSUN, Professor Odunayo Clement Adeboye, has announced that a total number of 2,851 Degrees and Diplomas will be awarded as part of activities to mark the 15th convocation ceremonies of the institution.
Out of the the total awards, the breakdown of the degrees and diploma includes; 49 First class, 988 Second class (Upper division), 1,279 Second class (Lower division), 178 Third class and 1 Pass.
Professor Adebooye made this known on Wednesday during a press conference held to kickstart the week long convocation ceremonies at the UNIOSUN main campus, Oke-Baale, Osogbo.
In his words, “it is my pleasure to inform you that a total of 2,851 Degrees and Diplomas will be awarded at the ceremony this year. This comprises: i. First Degrees: 2,505, ii. Postgraduate Diploma: 01, iii. Master Degrees: 283, iv. Doctoral Degrees: 62, Total 2,851.
“The breakdown of the various degrees and diploma in terms of class of degrees is as follows: i. First-Class: 49, ii. Second Class (Upper Division): 988, iii. Second Class (Lower Division): 1,279, iv. Third Class: 178, v. Pass: 01.”
While announcing that the activities for the convocation ceremony will kickstart on Wednesday, September 17 to Wednesday, September 24, 2025, Prof Adebooye added that his administration is set to commission seven new signature projects during the convocation week.
These he said include; “the Iconic Senate Building funded with TETFund’s High Impact Intervention, the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology Building, a Twin 500-seat Lecture Theatre Complex, a 500-capacity lecture theatre, entrepreneurship equipment, and additional 500-capacity lecture theatres at Okuku and Ifetedo campuses.”
He described the convocation as historic because it celebrated both graduating students and transformation of the institution onto a centre of innovation and academic distinction.
“I am pleased to announce that students admitted during the 2021/2022 academic session for four-year programmes, and those admitted during the 2020/2021 academic session, who have successfully met all academic requirements, will be graduating between 22nd and 23rd September 2025,” the Vice-Chancellor said.
“Events lined up include a pre-convocation press conference, induction ceremonies for graduates of Building Technology, Food Science and Technology, and Engineering, as well as Education graduates. Other highlights include Alumni Day activities, a Jumat Service, a convocation play, and a thanksgiving service.
“Convocation ceremonies for the Colleges of Humanities, Culture, and Education; Management, Social Sciences, and Law will hold on Monday, 22nd September. On Tuesday, 23rd September, Arc. Sonny Echono, Executive Secretary of TETFund, will deliver the convocation lecture titled ‘Digital Transformation in Higher Education: Building Skills in Graduates for Global Competitiveness’
“Further convocation ceremonies will be held for the Colleges of Agriculture and Health Sciences, Science, Engineering, and Technology on Tuesday, 23rd September, while project commissioning and the Postgraduate College convocation will take place on Wednesday, 24th September,” he added.
The UNIOSUN VC also appreciated the state governor, Ademola Adeleke for his contributions to the growth of the institution and congratulated the students and expressed the institution’s vision of ranking among the top 10 universities in Nigeria and top 20 in Africa
“Our progress would not have been possible without the unwavering support of the Government of Osun State, our Governing Council, TETFund, and other partners.
“Our path is clear, and our strategies are robust,” he concluded.
