Why IBB House Remains Mecca For All – Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has explained why the house of former Military President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) remained a ‘Mecca’ for all.

Jonathan, who led other well-wishers on an 84th birthday visit to IBB at his hilltop residence in Minna, said in an interview that Babangida was a committed leader.

He said, “Nigeria has produced leaders since we gained independence to date but one thing is that  General Babangida stands out very clearly  as one of those committed leaders who want the best for the country.”

The former president stated further, “That is why today his  house is like a Mecca of sort, people come to him regularly, which tells you a lot about the character of IBB.”

He said General Babangida took  “Nigeria and the whole country as his own. He is not a sectional leader,  he is somebody who believes in the unity of Nigeria,  that cuts across the corners of this country.”

Consequently, he said the former military president will continue to be celebrated because he has contributed to the country’s unity.

He said the prayer for IBB is for God to give him a long life to continue mentoring the younger ones so that they will behave similarly.

Meanwhile, the 84th birthday of General Babangida has been low-key and marked with prayers as well as receipts of symbolic gifts from well-wishers.
