The Zamfara State Police Command has dismissed media reports that 40 people were abducted during morning prayers in Tsafe Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Command said only eight people were taken by bandits during the attack, not 40 as earlier reported.
The police explained: “Contrary to the figure reported, the incident occurred on 15th September 2025 at about 05:07hrs, when suspected armed bandits invaded Gidan Turbe area of Tsafe LGA of Zamfara State and abducted eight (8) individuals during morning prayers.”
The victims were named as Liman Yahaya (46), Dan Garfi (52), Malam Damu (47), Bello Natsuhuwa (36), Yakubu Isa (40), Audu Minista (34), Yaquba Ado (27), and Sabi Usman (41).
The Command added that efforts are ongoing to rescue the victims.
“The Zamfara State Police Command is actively working with other security agencies and community stakeholders to ensure the safe return of the abducted victims,” the statement read.
Police also urged the public and the media to avoid spreading unverified information. “We urge members of the public and the media to always verify information from official sources before dissemination, so as not to cause unnecessary panic.”
The Command reassured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state and appealed for calm, asking people to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
